Crystant is a post-apocalyptic roguelite survival game set inside an underground laboratory where you play as a test subject locked away in a windowless facility. A sudden quake jolts you awake, and when the door to your cell swings open, a long corridor stretches ahead into flickering light and silence. What waits beyond are mysterious creatures, scarce resources and a grid-based tactical combat system built around careful positioning and strategic timing.
Combat operates on a turn-based grid where skill timing and enemy behavior patterns dictate every engagement. Different character classes equip their own specialized weapons, unlocking distinct abilities tied to that class. Enemies gain randomized enhancement traits during every run, meaning familiar opponents can become unpredictable threats that force you to rethink your approach. Deeper floors introduce foes with higher defenses, deadlier attack patterns and unique abilities that demand increasingly deliberate use of your limited supplies.
Progression threads through each run and beyond it. Four core attributes shape your combat build, while collectible chips enhance those attributes and accelerate character growth. Designated rest areas offer three functions: Recovery for regaining HP, Training to consume chips for ability upgrades and faster experience gain, and Insight to reveal sections of the map ahead. These stops provide a window to plan before pushing into more dangerous zones. After each cycle, accumulated experience and special currency carry over into the next run, reinforcing the long-term roguelite structure. Points earned during gameplay unlock additional character classes, encouraging experimentation across playstyles.
Scattered throughout the facility are research logs and fragmented documents. Piecing them together gradually reveals the laboratory's secrets. Crystant is not yet available to play, with a release still to come on Steam.
