Fogpiercer is a turn-based tactical deckbuilder set on a train barrelling through a world choked by deadly fog. Humanity's survival depends on reaching the edge of that fog, and the only way forward is through convoys of bandits who outnumber and surround you at every turn. Before each run begins, players assemble their train by choosing from a variety of locomotives, carriages, and drivers, each selection adding a different set of cards to the starting deck. That initial construction shapes the tactical options available for the entire journey ahead.

Combat plays out on battlefields where positioning and chain reactions matter as much as raw firepower. A limited pool of action points per turn forces meticulous planning. Enemies telegraph their moves, giving you the information needed to turn their aggression against them. A well-placed shot can force a vehicle onto the tracks ahead of your train, crushing it under your wheels. That same shot could destroy a leading vehicle and send it tumbling backward into the convoy behind it, potentially wiping out multiple threats in a single sequence. Hackers deploy decoys and seize control of enemy vehicles. Cranes shove them around the battlefield. With over 170 cards featuring status effects, support capabilities, and varying damage outputs, the right order of operations can devastate an entire enemy formation.

The world between battles is structured around branching paths through distinct regions, each carrying specific modifiers and rewards. Nodes along each route range from battlefields to friendly waystations where you can upgrade and repair your train. Chop shops and depots let you buy, sell, and upgrade carriages to reshape your deck mid-run. The battlefields themselves vary in meaningful ways: some bring allied reinforcements, others narrow the road or run along cliff edges creating persistent environmental hazards you can exploit. Boss battles cap each region, pitting you against characters with unique backstories and abilities.

Between runs, metaprogression unlocks additional carriages, drivers, and locomotives, opening new combinations for future attempts while upgrading favourites reveals even more cards to deploy in combat. Fogpiercer puts players at the head of a rampaging train where being constantly outgunned is the baseline and chain reactions are the equaliser.
