Bye Sweet Carole is a horror adventure game that draws from the golden age of hand-drawn animation, wrapping its darkness in the visual language of classic animated films. Created by Chris Darril of the Remothered series, this is a game that pairs childhood nostalgia with something far more unsettling.
Set in early 20th century England during the rise of the suffrage movement, you play as Lana Benton, a young girl searching for her missing friend Carole Simmons. The trail leads first to Bunny Hall orphanage, its eerie corridors hiding secrets within the walls before pulling Lana deeper into Corolla which is a fantastical kingdom that exists alongside the real world. This place operates under the control of Mr. Kyn and Velenia, a ruthless owl, while swarms of ravenous tar bunnies roam its spaces. Caught between these two realms, Lana must navigate both to uncover what happened to Carole.
The gameplay blends puzzle solving with stealth and platforming challenges. You'll sneak past deadly enemies, work through environmental puzzles and overcome obstacles that block your path forward. A transformation mechanic allows Lana to take on rabbit form, granting new ways to escape the threats lurking throughout Bunny Hall and Corolla. The world is populated by a cast that ranges from the kind Mr. Baesie to the menacing figures who rule this strange kingdom.
Developed by Little Sewing Machine in collaboration with Meangrip Game Studios and Dreams Uncorporated, Bye Sweet Carole positions itself as a love letter to both classic animation and the adventure games of the 90s, channelling their spirit while carving out something distinctly its own.
