I Hate This Place is an isometric survival horror game set in a cursed land where reality-bending nightmares and creatures that thrive in darkness stalk every corner of Rutherford Ranch. Inspired by the comic book series created by Kyle Starks and Artyom Topilin, this is a craft-based fight for survival rendered in bold colours and a punchy retro comic book style heavy with '80s flair. Horror, dark humour, camp and gore collide in a world where unsettling dread meets stylized charm.
Rutherford Ranch sprawls across haunted forests, a derelict town and infested bunkers, all teeming with danger. Scavenging resources fuels everything here: crafting essential gear, upgrading your campsite and rebuilding outposts that serve as shelter. A dynamic day-night cycle reshapes the world around you. Daylight is the window for exploration and preparation, a chance to gather supplies and craft what you need before darkness arrives. When night falls, stronger and more aggressive enemies emerge while the landscape narrows to whatever your flashlight can reach. Sometimes the smartest move is finding shelter and waiting for morning.
Many of the twisted creatures hunting Rutherford Ranch track you by sound alone, making brute force a fast route to an early grave. Stealth and combat work together rather than as separate options. Sound becomes a tool, luring creatures away from your path or drawing them into traps you've already laid. The game blends sneaking, fighting and scavenging into a loop where every resource matters and every noise carries consequences.
