The base game is built around the fictional Japanese prefecture of Guntama, a setting stitched together from real locations across the country. Over 250 km of roads wind through mountain passes, rural stretches and city streets, all running under dynamic weather and a day/night cycle with traffic filling the lanes. Tōge serpentines twist through mountainous terrain while narrow rural roads open into vast highways leading toward a modern cityscape. Towns sit along the scenic Haikama Lake. It's a place designed to reward driving for the sake of driving, where the route itself is the attraction. Radio stations tuned to J-music, Phonk and Eurobeat fill the cabin while authentic car sounds, captured from original recordings, give each engine its own voice.

The driving sits at the centre of everything. Two models let players choose their approach: Arcade mode keeps assists on for a more relaxed feel, while Simcade strips them away entirely, handing over full control at the cost of demanding real skill to hold a drift. Switching between the two is available at any time. Licensed Nissan, Honda, Subaru and Mazda cars form the garage, each open to mechanical tuning with new parts, suspension adjustments, wheel camber changes and gear ratio tweaks. Visual customisation runs from hood swaps and light changes to full body kit replacements, free colour palettes and underglow.

You play as a foreigner arriving in Japan with the goal of breaking into the local drifting scene. The campaign runs through over 40 narrative events plus additional sidequests, pitting you against the top drifters in the area. The story unfolds through hand-drawn manga pages, giving the whole journey a visual identity that leans into the culture the game is celebrating. It's a structure that ties every race and rivalry to forward momentum in the narrative rather than leaving events as disconnected challenges scattered across the map.

Standalone racing tracks and instanced events sit alongside the open road driving, offering focused challenges separate from freeform exploration. With American Classics bringing a new flavour of metal to Guntama's mountain passes, the roads are about to sound a little different.
