Lone Fungus is a Metroidvania set in a world built by mushrooms where you play as the last mushroom alive. Ten distinct areas await exploration, each with its own enemies and obstacles, those willing to scour every corner will find secrets and rewards scattered throughout.

Combat is straightforward but offers depth through customisation. You can parry anything that would normally damage you, and parrying projectiles sends them back at enemies. Emblems found across the world change how these mechanics behave, one might make reetroidvania with Customisable Combat andflected projectiles home in on foes at reduced damage, another deals damage to anything nearby instead of bouncing the attack back, while a Vortex Emblem destroys multiple projectiles around you at once. Relics work similarly to charms, some alter your healing, others boost sword damage or grant protection. With 60 Relics available, you shape your build around defence, healing, speed, melee or spell casting. The spell system ties into your sword strikes, giving each spell multiple uses depending on how you swing. Thirty three bosses guard new abilities, each designed with distinct attack patterns and clear tells before they strike, built so skilled players can defeat them without taking damage.

This is essentially a precision platformer, but the demanding sections are confined to optional side rooms. The main path lets you enjoy exploration and combat without forcing you through punishing jumps, though practice rooms exist for those who want to master the hardcore mechanics. Four difficulty modes and a full Assist Mode let you tailor the experience. Assist features include platforming pauses that give more breathing room between obstacles. The mode isn't just for those finding the game too tough, it's there for anyone who wants to mess around and play their own way.
