PARANORMASIGHT: The Mermaid's Curse is a supernatural visual novel set in Ise-Shima, a region of Japan steeped in mermaid legends. On the remote island of Kameshima, nestled in Ise bay, a young pearl diver named Yuza Minakuchi spends his days gathering beneath the waves alongside his best friend Azami Kumoi. That routine shatters when Yuza encounters another version of himself on the ocean floor, a bewildering supernatural experience that triggers a series of curses across the island.
Yuza is not the only one drawn into the unfolding mystery. A girl of unknown origins, a treasure hunter from a foreign land and a mysterious housewife investigating a drowning each carry their own perspective on the case. Players take control of multiple characters, piecing together what connects them as paths cross and fates collide. At the center of it all lies the secret of the Mermaids of Ise, a legend long obscured by the fog of history.
Investigation drives the experience. The environments are faithful reproductions of real locations in Mie prefecture, rendered as 360-degree backgrounds players can search for clues. A diving mini game takes the investigation underwater, fitting for a story rooted in pearl diving and ocean folklore. These mechanics sit alongside the core visual novel structure, where reading different characters' accounts and guiding their choices steers the narrative toward its conclusion.
Developed by Xeen and published by Square Enix, The Mermaid's Curse is a standalone entry in the PARANORMASIGHT series with its own location, cast and supernatural mythology.
