After1mage 1nteractive, a three-person independent studio split between Italy and North America, has announced SoulStream Saga: Chapter 1 for PC via Steam. A prologue demo arrives at the end of March 2026, with the full release date still to be confirmed.
The combat runs on a Shared ATB system where both the player and enemies draw from the same active time bar, making every decision a question of when as much as what. Most actions take time to execute, opening a window for interrupts. Land a disruption at the right moment during an enemy's cast and you can swing a fight that was slipping away. Elemental weaknesses and resistances layer on top of this, but the wrinkle is that Astarius's own elemental affinity shifts depending on his current stance, which changes based on the skills you select. So you're not just reading the enemy's vulnerabilities, you're reshaping your own to match. Enemies don't sit idle either. They evaluate the battlefield each turn, choosing to heal, buff allies, disrupt your casts, or focus fire, with enough unpredictability to keep you from settling into a single rhythm. The full game promises seven recruitable party members, each with a unique skill tree supporting distinct builds, with three active in combat at any time. Gear and items round out the preparation, and the complete Chapter 1 targets over 40 hours of story content alongside minigames like treasure hunting, fishing, and a playable trading card game.

The combat system serves a story built on a hundred years of consequence. Alestria, the capital city, was torn apart by war between two rival factions, Mages and Alchemists, each claiming to fight for a better future while ordinary civilians bore the cost. Astarius Valcrest, a former Mage, rejected the division entirely. He left to study alchemy and returned carrying Alchaeon, a blade he forged himself and infused with both disciplines. His answer to the war was unity made literal, proof that the two sides didn't need to destroy each other to move forward.

A century later, the world Astarius fought for still stands, but it's fracturing from the top. Princess Victoria Lockewell's father, the king, is descending into madness and threatening to undo everything that was built in the aftermath of the war. Desperate enough to cross a line, Victoria casts a forbidden incantation to revive Astarius. The full game explores Alestria a hundred years after the conflict, tracing the long-term consequences of that war and the world that grew out of it.

The prologue demo takes a different approach, placing players directly in Astarius's boots during the original war with all skills unlocked and his level maxed out. It's a prequel slice designed to showcase the ATB system at full capacity before the main story begins. A 2D pixel art JRPG drawing from the SNES and early PlayStation era, SoulStream Saga wears its inspirations openly. A content warning notes graphical violence and mature subject matter, including depictions of death and graphic gore. This is a debut title from a small team, and the studio has been upfront that the demo may contain bugs, welcoming feedback to help shape the finished game. What's here is a combat system with genuine tactical texture built around a story that spans generations, asking whether unity can outlast the people who forged it.
