Starfield is a role-playing game from Bethesda Game Studios set in the year 2330, when humanity has spread beyond our solar system and settled new planets as a spacefaring people. You join Constellation, the last group of space explorers seeking rare artifacts throughout the galaxy, and embark on a journey to answer humanity's greatest mystery. Character creation lets you customize your appearance and choose a Background and Traits, shaping who you are from the start — an experienced explorer, a charming diplomat, a stealthy cyber runner, or something else entirely.
More than 1000 planets stretch across the Settled Systems. Bustling cities, dangerous bases and wild landscapes fill these worlds, each offering quests, faction storylines and a cast of characters you can recruit to join your crew. The scale is vast and the game leans into that breadth, presenting new stories and encounters across its galaxy.
Ships sit at the center of the experience. You pilot and command your own vessel, personalizing its look and modifying critical systems including weapons and shields. Crew members assigned to different roles provide unique bonuses. Deep space brings high stakes dogfights, random missions, star station docking and the option to board and commandeer enemy ships to add to your collection. The ship is both transport and expression, shaped by the choices you make.
Planet exploration feeds into a crafting and building loop. Fauna, flora and resources discovered across worlds become the raw materials for medicine, food, equipment and weapons. Outposts can be built and staffed with hired crews who passively extract materials, with cargo links transferring resources between them. These materials funnel into research projects that unlock unique crafting recipes. Combat across these environments uses a system where long range rifles, laser weapons and demolitions each offer modification to complement different playstyles. Zero G environments add a chaotic spectacle to firefights, while boost packs give players freedom to maneuver through the chaos.
Starfield is Bethesda Game Studios' biggest and most ambitious game, and their first new universe in over 25 years. Every system — from character creation to ship customization to outpost building — feeds back into a galaxy that rewards the impulse to keep pushing further into the unknown.
